Lize Spit (born 1988) grew up in Viersel, in the Antwerp Kempen, and has lived in Brussels since 2005. Her debut novel, Het smelt (2016), sold over 250,000 copies, was translated into sixteen languages, and adapted into a film released in spring 2023. The book won multiple awards, including the Bronzen Uil, the Boekhandelsprijs, the Hebban Debut Prize, and the Lucy B. and C.W. van der Hoogt Prize, was named NRC Book of the Year, and made the shortlist for both the Libris Literature Prize and the Premio Strega Europeo. Her second novel, Ik ben er niet (2020), described by NRC as ‘unputdownable’, further cemented her reputation. In 2023, she wrote the Dutch Book Week gift, De Eerlijke vinder, which was published in 550,000 copies and received widespread acclaim. Lize also teaches creative writing at RITCS and writes a column for the newspaper De Morgen.
